“Style is about panache, and about embracing individuality…That’s what beauty is about for me—celebrating uniqueness, not conformity.”–Isabella Rossellini
My name is Jenny Schneider. I have been a hair stylist for over 20 years.
After working in the film industry in Los Angeles, I realized my true passion was beauty. I attended cosmetology school at the Vidal Sassoon Academy in LA and went on to work with Sassoon in LA and Washington, DC for 10 years. During that time, I taught Classic and Advanced Color Courses at the Sassoon Academy; demonstrated Sassoon’s latest collections on stage at numerous trade shows, including the Alternative Hair Show, IBS, ISSE, and Premiere Orlando; taught workshops at salons across the country, and trained the next generation of Sassoon’s Color Specialists.
I joined Klinger Advanced Aesthetics in Chevy Chase, MD as National Color Director in 2005. I was extremely excited to take my career to the next level by working hand-in-hand with spa and Johns Hopkins Cosmedical Professionals. I truly believe that beauty is all encompassing—hair should be complemented by a beautiful complexion, which should be further complemented by well-manicured nails. Our personal image is an entire picture. During that time, I developed a training program to roll out to all KAA locations nationwide and continued educating apprentices in-house.
In 2008 I became the General Manager of The Salon and Spa at Saks Fifth Avenue in McLean, Virginia. I continued the goal of providing my clients with 360 degrees of beauty potential, now to include make-up and wardrobe, by working closely with Saks’ Make-Up Artists and Personal Shoppers. I was fortunate to be able to market the Salon alongside Saks at local events, with local magazines, newspapers, television stations, and fashion shows.
I moved to Roanoke in 2009. After many years of working in large metropolitan areas, I was eager to move to an area where I could get out of the rat race and have more time to enjoy my family life.
As a result of my dedication to my craft, it was an honor to be named as one of DC’s top ten color specialists in Washingtonian’s “Great Hair” issues. I have also been interviewed as a color expert by The Washington Post, New York Times, and various beauty blogs. I am very lucky to have retained a VIP clientele in DC who are wonderful enough to work around my schedule.
I am an avid traveler and music lover. I like to think my style is influenced by the street looks I discover in other countries as well as the music industry. I believe hair plays a huge part in fashion, and fashion is created not only by designers but also by everyday people expressing themselves.
